Animal Farm

Animal Farm
Author: George Orwell
Genre: Fiction, Classic, Satire, Allegory
Length: 112 pages

Plot: A powerful allegory of World War II. An account of oppressed animals seeking independence and power from humans to build an egalitarian utopia where “all animals are created equal”. Unfortunately, Animal Farm reverted to totalitarian with corrupted and myopic leadership commanding ignorant, impressionable followers.

Overall Impression: A wonderful satire and exploration of corrupted leadership, propaganda, and utopian ideals. But it was not Snowball’s wisdom and unjust end that appealed to me. Despite his ignorance, I fell in love with Boxer’s strong conviction and faith, in his hardworking and loyal character. I only regret that the story feels incomplete, the ending inconclusive.
